Building Momentum: A 2025 Recap with CEO David Brown

December 15, 2025

As we close out 2025, we sat down with WellStat CEO David Brown to reflect on a pivotal year for the built environment industry—and for WellStat’s role within it. From shifting expectations around building performance to major strides in global expansion, customer growth, and platform innovation, this was a year defined by acceleration.

In this candid conversation, Dave shares his perspective on the industry shifts shaping the future, the milestones that defined WellStat’s progress, and what he sees coming in 2026 as organizations demand smarter, healthier, and more efficient buildings at scale.

Q&A with Dave Brown, CEO of WellStat

1. Looking back at 2025, what stands out most to you about the year, both for the industry and for WellStat?

Dave:
“Across the industry, we’re seeing real tailwinds take shape—tailwinds that will fuel both global building performance innovation and WellStat’s continued growth. Commercial real estate conditions improved, occupancy climbed, and the energy landscape grew more complex. At the same time, grid constraints, rising power demand, and the explosion of data centers all highlighted the urgent need for better building intelligence. Layer on the growing focus on the environments where people work every day, and you have a powerful accelerant for what we do.

For WellStat specifically, what stands out most is how the team responded to every challenge that came our way throughout 2025. They built the foundations we need to capture the much larger opportunity in front of us—foundations that will enable us to scale with confidence in 2026 and beyond. The resilience and commitment across the company have been remarkable.”

2. This year marked a major period of growth and global expansion for WellStat. What were the key drivers, and what did we learn along the way?

Dave:
“We’re still at the very beginning of our global expansion journey, but several forces are clearly shaping our path: market readiness, organizational agility, and the maturity of our platform. International markets are now facing many of the same pressures North America experienced—tightening regulations, rising ESG expectations, and a growing realization that air quality, energy performance, and occupancy cannot be managed in isolation.

What we’ve learned is that although every market has its own nuances, the core needs are consistent everywhere: trusted, high-quality data; low-friction deployment; and insights that lead directly to operational action. And we’ve seen firsthand how essential strong local partnerships will be to our success. Whether in Europe, the Middle East, or APAC, knowledgeable regional collaborators will help accelerate adoption and ensure customers get the context and support they need.”

3. WellStat had a significant presence at industry events across North America, Europe, and beyond. How did these engagements shape our momentum and visibility?

Dave:
“Events played a major role in elevating our visibility and bringing WellStat’s message to new audiences. Across real estate, sustainability, and building operations conferences, we saw a clear shift in mindset. The conversations are no longer about whether building performance matters—they’re about how to scale it.

Our presence on panels, keynotes, and workshops helped position WellStat as a thought leader in solving some of the industry’s most pressing challenges. These engagements created invaluable feedback loops with customers and prospects, shaping our roadmap and validating that we’re building in the right direction.

Most importantly, being invited to represent the industry on global stages signaled that WellStat isn’t just part of the conversation—we’re helping lead it.”

4. From new customers to product enhancements, what accomplishments from the team are you most proud of this year?

Dave:
“I’m incredibly proud of how the WellStat team showed up in 2025. Despite challenging circumstances at times, the collaboration, execution, and commitment to our mission never wavered.

We onboarded and now support some of the world’s leading building owners, operators, and enterprises—and we did it with speed and quality that exceeded expectations. On the product side, we made strong strides: expanded analytics, better reporting, deeper integrations, and major improvements to deployment workflows that are helping customers scale across entire portfolios.

What stands out most, though, is how the team consistently delivered for our customers. Whether navigating complex energy questions or customizing deployments for hospitals and local authorities, their creativity and dedication defined our year. Our momentum has been driven by people who care deeply about the mission, and that commitment is visible in every result.”

5. The commercial real estate and healthy building landscape moved quickly in 2025. What shifts did you see across IAQ, energy management, and sustainability that will define the next few years?

Dave:
“Three major shifts stood out:

  • Energy and performance data moved from reactive to predictive.
Advances in measurement, modeling, and automation are enabling owners to anticipate issues before they occur, reduce waste, and optimize comfort without compromising sustainability goals.
  • Air quality became a true operational requirement.
Point-in-time measurements are no longer enough. Organizations now expect continuous, portfolio-level insights to meet wellness goals, tenant expectations, and evolving compliance requirements. This year, the Global Commission on Healthy Indoor Air officially launched at the United Nations, and I was honored to be appointed as a member. The Commission brings together leaders in public health, science, policy, and industry to create actionable frameworks that elevate indoor air quality as a global priority, highlighting how critical these shifts have become.
  • Building performance moved into the financial conversation.
Operators and investors are increasingly linking operational data to asset value, risk, and ESG performance. Transparency is becoming a competitive advantage.

These shifts are accelerating, and WellStat is positioned not just to help organizations and communities adapt—but to help them lead.”

6. As we head into 2026, what are you most excited about—for our customers, for the platform, and for the broader built environment space?

Dave:
“What excites me most is the momentum we’re building with our customers and partners. We’re not just providing tools—we’re collaborating closely to solve their most pressing operational challenges. New capabilities like the Tenant Experience Portal are expanding what’s possible and deepening our role as a strategic partner.

For the platform, 2026 will be a year defined by deeper intelligence, broader integrations, and more automation. Customers want less friction and more impact, and we’re building toward a future where WellStat becomes the foundational layer for real-time operational decision-making.

And for the industry overall, I’m truly optimistic. Technology, regulation, and market expectations are finally aligning in a way that encourages rapid progress. Buildings are being recognized as dynamic systems that can be optimized in real time. That shift creates an enormous opportunity to deliver healthier, more efficient, cost effective and more sustainable environments—and WellStat is well positioned to help shape that future.”
